美國華盛頓州一個民主黨的選舉人揚言，就算希拉蕊贏得普選票，他的那張選舉人票，也不投給希拉蕊，這又給選舉增加了一點新的變數。（夏明珠報導）

那位選舉人是印第安人，在民主黨初選過程中，擁護桑德斯，他認為希拉蕊不關心原住民，她政見變來變去，充其量就是個政治投機份子。他認為川普也沒有能力領導國家。

美國總統大選實際上是間接選舉，投票日當天，選民選的是每一州的選舉人，再由選舉人在十二月19號選出總統，除了緬因和內布拉斯加之外，其餘的州都是採取贏者全拿的辦法，也就是普選票勝出的候選人，可以得到那個州的全部選舉人票。美國憲法並沒有明文規定選舉人一定要遵循慣例，不過部份州有針對所謂的失信選舉人，制定罰則。華盛頓州是一千美元罰款。華盛頓州有12張選舉人票，預測希拉蕊會拿下。

美國歷史上，百分之99的選舉人都依照政黨屬性投票，從momo來沒有選舉逃兵改變選舉結果的紀錄。
